I still have the old friends from my childhood. We meet a couple of times every year and usually laugh together, remembering the thousand anecdotes of the school days. In the year we turned fifty I drew and painted on a wooden board a picture for each one of them. These are streets of Madrid based on screenshots taken from Google Street View (that´s why the point of view is a little bit high). The idea was to picture a corner of the route that each of them used to take when they went to school every morning.

I became enthusiastic again about Velazquez´s masterpiece “Los Borrachos” after having painted a detail of “Las Hilanderas” which had an unexpected success. They were imagined as my old fellow friends in the turbulent Christmas of 2020.
